一、含义不同
1、prevalent 流行的；普遍的，广传的。
2、popular 流行的，通俗的；受欢迎的；大众的；普及的。
二、强调的重点不同
1、prevalent 强调流行、盛行、风靡一时。如：
This condition is more prevalent in women than in men.
这种情况在女性中比在男性中更为普遍。
2、popular 强调受欢迎程度比较高。
Chocolate sauce is always popular with youngsters.
巧克力酱总是受年轻人喜爱。
三、用法不同
1、prevalent 用于表示流行的、普遍存在的状态。如：
Schistomiosis, which is a worm that lives in river waters, causes terrible diseases that are still prevalent in many parts of the world.
血吸虫，是一种生存在河水中的蠕虫，可以引起严重疾病，并仍在世界上众多地区广泛流行。
2、popular 用于表示受欢迎的、受青睐的。如：
He remained the most popular politician in Arkansas.
他仍是阿肯色州最广受喜爱的政治家。
